Brief History

Bengtol College is situated in the Chirang District, Assam. It is 17 Km. from NH-31, 24 km. from Bongaigaon Railway Station, and 184km. from Guwahati.

The concept of establishing Bengtol College started in the year 1977. An ad-hoc committee was set up by educationally conscious and interested citizens of the locality to achieve the purpose. Time passed by, but there was no development in the official and construction works due to several reasons. Eventually, in the year 1981, a College Management Committee was formed to carry forward the works relating to establishment in 1981, it took long 16 years to start actual classes. The classes were formally started on 1st August, 1997 with 7 numbers of students in B.A. 1st year and 3 number of teachers.

The pioneers of College are Late Bhoben Ch. Owary, Shri Eonas Narzary, Late Sunil Bhowmick, Shri Andrius Hajoary (then MLA), Shri Issac Narzary, Shri Gregory Borgoyary, Shri Domonic Basumatary, Dr. Ranjit Kr. Narzary (present Principal) and many more untiring conscious citizens of the area. The college has reached up to this stature due to the relentless works and sacrifices of those people. The establishment of this college was a great challenge for the area. Undoubtedly, the pioneer had to face various kinds of hardships in times to bring up the college to this stage.

The college received affiliation from the Gauhati University in 1999. The affiliation was given by the University in the following subjects- English, Alternative English, Modern Indian Language (MIL) in Bodo, Assamese & Nepali, Bodo Elective, Political Science, Education, Economics, History, Philosophy and BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration). The University also accorded affiliation for major course to the college in the following subjects- Bodo, Economics, Education, English, History, Philosophy and Political Science. The college was granted permanent Affiliation by Gauhati University in the year in 2009. However, as per the State Govt. direction, the college has been affiliated to Bodoland University, Kokrajhar, Assam since 2020.

The college is recognized under Section 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act 1956, New Delhi in the year 2009. The college has 12 acres of vast contiguous land and greenish plot. The college has been imparting a quality education to the deprived students and working persons through distance mode of education, like Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) GU and Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) Guwahati, Assam.

The college always tries to achieve excellence in academic parlance. The founder Principal Dr. Ranjit Kumar Narzary, M.Sc., Ph.D. and teaching staffs are committed to shine its name and fame, and to create a paradigm of true knowledge and learning for generation to come and to the present society.
